Why the Alexander Technique?
Our bodies have been efficiently designed by nature, modern life takes its toll on them. Over the years, through work and lifestyles, we tend to develop tense habits of movement that cause back and shoulder aches, stiff necks, headaches, sore knees and other ailments that can affects our quality of life.
With the Alexander Technique you learn to undo years of tension and strain accumulated through poor physical use. Remove harmful habits for improved co-ordination and increased energy.
"Many types of underperformance and even ailments, both mental and physical, can be alleviated by teaching the body musculature to function differently" Nicholas Tinbergen, Nobel Price for Medicine
How the Alexander Technique can help?
Pain relief through postural improvement
Pain often arises from mechanically incorrect movements, excess tension and poor posture. If you are suffering from back pain, sciatica, headache, RSI, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, or sport or other injuryes, the Alexander Technique could speed recovery, in that it helps you prevent harmful postural habits causing tension and pain.
The technique has been included in the 2009 NICE guidelines for low back pain following very positive results from the 2008 clinical trial funded by the Medical Research Council and the NHS. (days of pain were reduced from 21 to 3 in a month).
I will not contravene the advise of your doctor. In fact, I am happy to consult with your doctor and explain how the Alexander Technique works in accelerating healing and recovery.
Dealing with stress

Perhaps you simply cannot 'let go'. Or else you may be constantly preoccupied and anxious, or you may be experiencing chronic headaches, respiratory problems, gastrointestinal dysfunction, hypertension, etc.
The Alexander Technique can help you be calmer and more grounded, to breathe and speak more freely and establish an overall sense of confidence. It helps you take control of your responses to situations.
Improved performance
If you are an actor, dancer, musician, sport person, or a public speaker the Alexander Technique can enhance your performance through better coordination for freer movement and speech.
The Alexander Technique brings attention to both the mental and physical aspects of performance. With increased awareness and clear perception you can learn to remove whatever is in the way of you achieving your full potential.
Pregnancy
The way the body changes during pregnancy can create discomfort. With the Alexander Technique, you can learn how to better use your body in everyday activities and how to respond to stress and pain through the releasing of tensions. As your body becomes more sensitive you learn to be more aware of changes and adapt to them more efficiently.
